Mazda has a long history of building its own diesel engines, since it was founded in 1920. Mazda diesel engines have been used in other brands of cars too. Ford has used Mazda engines and so has Mitsubishi. So there are plenty of them out there.

Mazda Motor Corporation developed a greatly improved clean diesel engine that offers output and environmental performance comparable to a gasoline engine, introduced in Europe in 2009.. It will be progressively introduced to markets around the world,

The newly developed MZR-CD 2.2 clean diesel engine has a larger displacement greater than Mazda’s current MZR-CD 2.0-liter diesel. Improved fuel injectors and a lower compression ratio contribute to its enhanced fuel efficiency. Additionally, the engine’s diesel particulate filter (DPF) features a Mazda-developed world-first catalyst activation mechanism that enhances the removal of ’soot’ from the exhaust gases.

Due to this technical advancement, the MZR-CD 2.2 is clean enough to qualify for the Euro 5 emissions standards. Furthermore, the addition of a dual balance shaft and a more rigid engine block has resulted in a significant reduction in engine vibration, and helps achieve extremely quiet operation.

As a result, the new catalyst mechanism reduces the amount of fuel required to burn off the particulates (soot). This improves the overall fuel economy, and results in lower CO2 emissions and cleaner exhaust gases.

In the direct-injection gasoline engine, fuel is sprayed directly into the cylinder — where combustion occurs — rather than being first mixed with air. That allows more precise control of the fuel and air mixture, reducing fuel consumption by 25 to 35 percent, engineers say, while offering slightly greater power and acceleration than conventional engines.

Automotive engineers have been pursuing direct-injection engines for several decades. But only now have electronic engine controls advanced enough to allow such engines to become workable.

Diesel engines are known to last longer than gasoline engines for the most part. Of course, I’m assuming you take proper care of your diesel engine, which has somewhat different requirements than gasoline engines. Not to say that diesel engines don’t have problems and don’t fail.

Although this page may not get the same traffic as a page for American car engines, if you are here, there is a good chance you are looking for diesel engines for sale. It is nice to know we are the leading supplier of Mazda diesel engines in the Continental US. Don’t hesitate to call us at 1-877-268-0664 for any and all questions you may have. GotEngines.com.
